一、教材分析 (Analysis of the Teaching
Material)
This
material titled Strangers under the same
roof ? is a reading passage from Unit 2 Let’s
talk teens in Book 1. It will be a reading lesson. The orientation of
such a lesson type in the senior high stage is not only to learn to
read/practice and experience their reading skills, but also to expand their
vision, via which they learn to develop their thinking skills and to use the
target language to express themselves.
The
text mainly talks about the family
tensions between teengers and parents and how to improve the situation,
conveying the message that it is normal to struggle with the stress that parent–child tensions create, and that
teenagers and their parents can work together to improve their relationship.The
text is an argumentation. The writer analyzes the problems, two reasons , the
solutions to solving these problems and then comes to a conclusion , which
makes the structure clear.
Based
on this interpretation, the teacher can try to help the learners understand the
text as a whole, why it is written, how is the text organized and how it is
related to their own life.
二.学情分析 (Analysis of the Target
Students)
The learners are students
from Senior 1. Since senior 1, they have been learning some reading strategies
and skills, such as skimming, scanning and thinking critically. So they have
got general ideas about reading strategies and skills but need more practice
and go deeper into the reading material. Therefore, it is not hard for them to
understand the structure and master the target language of the text. Besides,
the topic of family tensions is not unfamiliar to Ss, so I adopt a mind map to
help Ss construct the information about family tensions and language based on
the text, hoping them to put these knowledge and skills into the real life. How
to guide the Ss to employ the expressions, the structure and the communication
skills is an important issue for Ss. With a scaffold of mind map, Ss will feel
confident and ready to finish the discussion task.
三.教学目标 (Teaching Objectives )
By the end of this lesson, students will be
able to:
1. get the structure and main idea of each
paragraphs;
2. clarify the writer’s purpose of applying
three questions at the beginning of the first paragraphs;
3. understand why family members become
strangers under the same roof;
4. learn how to solve the problems with
their parents.
5.write a letter of advice based on the expressions,
the structure and communication skills.
